Vom Hausmeister über den Lehrer in Spanien bis zum Autor. Simon Becketts Leben ist vielfältig und spannend wie seine Bücher. Nach einer Steppvisite als Lehrer in Spanien kehrt er nach England zurück, um dort in einigen Bands Schlagzeig zu spielen. In den frühen 90er Jahren arbeitet Simon Beckett als freier Journalist für britische Zeitungen und Magazine.
Sein Aufgabenspektrum umfasst unter anderem die Begleitung der Polizei bei Razzien im Rotlicht- und Drogenmilieu. Die Inspiration für seine Bestseller Die Chemie des Todes, Kalte Asche und Leichenblässe zieht er aus einem Besuch der Body Farm. An der University of Tennessee wird auf einem Gelände von ca. 12.000 m² (Anthropological Research Facility (ARF)) von Wissenschaftlern der Zerfall menschlicher Leichen untersucht. Die Forschungsergebnisse werden genutzt, um die Todesart, das Alter, Geschlecht von verwesten Leichen genauer zu bestimme. Untersuchungen des Eisengehalts im Boden geben beispielweise Aufschluss über die Verwesungsgeschwindigkeit und ob es sich beim Fundort der Leiche auch tatsächlich um den Tatort handelt.
Simon Becketts Besteller wurden mittlerweile in mehr als 20 Sprachen übersetzt, und sind wochenlang in den Bestsellerlisten zu finden. Allein Die Chemie des Todes wurde in Deutschland über 1 Mio. Mal verkauft.

Neben der Hunter-Trilogie hat Simon Beckett vier weitere Romane geschrieben, die bald auch in Deutschland erscheinen. Simon Beckett ist verheiratet und lebt zusammen mit seiner Frau in Sheffield, England.
