Mit Sniper kehrt Lee Child‘s berühmter, in einer amerikanischen Militärbasis in Westberlin geborene Held Jack Reacher zurück. Reacher ist der perfekte Romanheld. Der ehemalige Soldat ist weder depressiv noch alkoholkrank und weiß immer genau Bescheid, wo die Grenzen zwischen gut und böse verlaufen. Dies drückt sich auch in seinem Handeln aus, das zwar immer kalt und berechnend, aber im Rahmen seines Weltbilds durchaus konsequent ist. Nach einem Massaker in einer Kleinstadt im amerikanischen Indiana kommt dem Verdächtigen James Barr nur ein Name in den Sinn: Jack Reacher. Das komische: Reacher ist Barr’s ehemaliger Vorgesetzter bei der Armee und hatte sich eigentlich in den Kopf gesetzt den Unglücklichen im Falle eines Verbrechens endgültig aus dem Verkehr zu ziehen. Zur Erklärung: James Barr hatte vor vielen Jahren, als er unter der militärischen Führung von Reacher war, vier GIs auf allzu ähnliche Weise, wie die Opfer des jüngsten Massakers in Indiana erschossen. Alle Beweise sprechen gegen James Barr und auch Reacher glaubt zunächst, dass dem ehemaligen Scharfschützen schlicht die Sicherungen durchgebrannt sind. Es kommt wie es kommen muss, nämlich alles anders. Reacher macht sich zunächst skeptisch auf die Spurensuche, wird dann aber bei seinen Ermittlungen behindert, was ihn nur umso verbissener macht. Im Laufe des Buches fördert er so manches Geheimnis ans Licht; am Ende steht ein Komplott ungeheuren Ausmaßes.
Nun mag sich mancher Lesen nach meinen Worten denken, dass die Geschichte reichlich platt und abgedroschen klingt. Fans von Autor Lee Child wissen es besser! Mit Jack Reacher hat er einen Helden geschaffen, der in gefühlt unzähligen Bänden die Leser immer wieder fasziniert. Sicher, er legt des öfteren eine Rambo-Manier an den Tag aber er ist definitiv die coolste Sau seit Jason Statham in den Transporter-Filmen. Spannung bis zur letzten Seite ist garantiert, versteht es der Autor auf den Punkt genau den Leser mit den wichtigen Informationen zu füttern und ihn mit seiner fesselnden Schreibweise zu begeistern. Allzu zart besaiteteten Gemütern sei gesagt: das eBook kommt auch nicht ganz ohne Gewalt aus. Passend zur heutigen Ankündigung von Amazon den eReader Kindle zur Frankfurter Buchmesse in Deutschland einzuführen, ist das eBook, welches mit einem sehr günstigen Preis von 8,95€ in die Thriller eBook Charts bei Libri eingestiegen ist, die perfekte Gelegenheit sich mit dem elektronischen Lesegenuß vertraut zu machen.
