Barnes & Nobles drängt auf den eBook Markt
Im Juli war das die Meldung des Tages zum Thema eBook. Während sich die deutschen Buchhändler mit dem elektronischen Buch noch etwas schwer tun, hat der Kampf um die Marktanteile auf dem amerikanischen eBook Markt schon längst begonnen. Neben Amazon drängt mit Barnes & Nobles ein weiteres Schwergewicht auf den Markt.
Und Google spielt das Spiel gerne mit. Eine Kooperation mit Google und Plastic Logic (eReader der u.a. in Dresden entwickelt wird) ermöglicht es Barnes & Nobles dem Konkurrenten Amazon mit mehr als 700.000 eBooks entgegenzutreten.
Das eBook Angebot ist über http://www.barnesandnoble.com/ebooks/ erreichbar. Einige englische Titel können sich auch die deutschen eBook-Fans herunterladen. Dabei zieht Barnes & Nobles mit und bietet die meisten eBook für 9.99$ an. Die Google Books sind für einen symbolischen Cent zu haben.
Anfang 2010 zündet Barnes & Nobles mit Plastic Logic dann die zweite Stufe und macht der Kindle-Familie Konkurrenz. Der Kindle war schon bei der Vorbestellung schon meistverkauftes elektronisches Produkt bei Amazon. Barnes & Nobles beliefert den Plastic Logic eReader exklusiv. Der Reader hat einen großen Vorteil gegenüber dem Kindle DX. Er ist wesentlich leichter und ganz ehrlich: Er sieht meiner Meinung nach eindeutig besser aus.

Es wird sich zeigen, ob sich das mit WLAN und 3G ausgestatte Device durchsetzt und wer am Ende die Nase vorne hat. In Deutschland müssen wir uns noch etwas gedulden bis wir solche schmucken eReader in den Händen halten dürfen. Die Verlage wird es sicher freuen, weil nun ein weiterer Spieler auf dem eBook Markt mitmischt.
